Normally, I clean out my old candle holders and recycle them. I was thinking the other day, that I needed some containers to organize my markers and other writing instruments in. Instead of going out to purchase a pen holder, I decided to use an old glass candle container.
What you need:
- glass container
- spray paint
- painter’s tape
Apply painter’s tape (or masking tape) in bands around the container you’re using. If you’re creating a set of pen holders, it might be a good idea to alternate the placement of the tape for some visual interest. Spray the paint in several light layers, rather than just a few heavy layers. Ensure you have a well-ventilated area to spray paint your container(s).
What I love about this project is that it was completely free to do. I’m sure you have glass containers or jars that you could use for this project, or tin cans, if nothing else. The recycling depots here have bins where you can take used cans of paint and spray paint. People are allowed to go through what is brought in for recycling, and take whatever they would like. I picked up an almost full container of gold spray paint, and a few cans of neon pink, too. I plan on upcycling a few more glass containers, and grouping them together, so that I can organize my art supplies. As an alternative, you can spray paint the interior of the glass, for a different look. If you want to spray paint a glass container to use as a vase, just be sure not to get any spray paint inside, as the water will make it flake off.
