How to Get Your Family on Board With Holistic Health

November 14, 2019 by Ashley T

The holistic health trend is all the rage right now, but it’s hardly new — actually, it’s been around for centuries. If you’re ready to try a holistic approach but your family isn’t receptive, they probably don’t have the whole story about holistic health and how it works. Here are some tips for helping them understand your enthusiasm.

Holistic Health Isn’t Anti-Science

One of the biggest misconceptions about holistic health is that it somehow anti-science. This couldn’t be further from the truth, as much of the basis of holistic care is supported by science, according to Counselor Magazine. Diet and lifestyle changes absolutely affect health, and that is what forms the foundation of the holistic health approach. Holistic health is also not anti-medicine. Holistic care means taking care of the whole person instead of just using medication to mask symptoms. However, it does not mean not using medicine as part of a plan to manage health. Holistic care just also encourages people to take a look at other changes that can be made in their diet and lifestyle to help them feel better and heal.

Holistic Health is Easy to Implement

Modern health problems are often approached with medication or other medical interventions when the answer can be as simple as a diet change. For example, low testosterone is a common concern for aging men, and there are easy ways to boost it using holistic approaches. Leviathan Wellness recommends consuming more vitamin D to help improve natural testosterone production. Tuna, salmon, and fortified milk are a good start for Vitamin D (egg yolks, too, if you don’t have any cholesterol issues). Also target zinc-rich foods like oysters and beans. Even mental health issues can be helped by increasing foods with magnesium or selenium.

You’ll Need Fewer Visits to the Doctor

You and your family will fall ill from time to time because that’s just what humans do. However, a holistic approach to your health may keep you out of the doctor’s office as often. If you are eating well, exercising, and using natural supplements to ensure good health, your immune system is likely going to benefit. Your body should be able to fight off infections without help. At the very least, you shouldn’t get as sick since your body has the resources to fight back stronger.

Holistic health is a great complement to traditional medicine for the whole family. If your family needs convincing, just point out the benefits and then let them experience those benefits first hand.
