Is this your first time handling a car?
I’ve heard stories of teenagers getting their first car, being so excited about having it but not know anything about taking care of the car. One example: a car’s engine blowing up because in the year (or so) this person had the car, they didn’t know they needed to get an oil change.
This is why it is important to write a post about why engine oil is important.
But just why is engine oil so important? The purpose of engine oil is to keep the internal parts of your car’s engine lubricated and cool. It keeps the moving parts from grinding against each other causing wear and damage. Makes sense right? The engine needs to be kept cool because overheating is terrible and can cause the engine to blow. The moving parts can break if there is too much grinding against each other.
But why is it important to change the oil?
Without frequent oil changes, dirt and sludge can build up in the engine. Old, dirty oil won’t lubricate the moving parts as well as new, fresh oil will. Dirty oil leads to serious damage, and if things get bad enough, there may be an engine replacement in your future.
Actually getting your oil changed can be pretty inexpensive but can save you a lot in the long run. This includes the engine replacement mentioned above. You’ll want to be sure to choose the best oil for your engine and follow the change guidelines given by the manufacturer.
If you are unsure of the guidelines for your specific make and model, you can check with the dealership. Places like Thompson Chrysler will have those details available for you.
