5 Easy Ways To Save Money Around The House

March 18, 2020 by Ashley T

If you want to start saving money, or you know that you need to make cuts in the amount that you are spending, it is a good idea to see what changes you can make around the house. You will be surprised at how much you can change by just making a few changes. Below are a few things that you could do to help you save money:

Write a shopping list

Writing a shopping list is a great way to keep your food bill down. If you go to the supermarket with no idea of what you need to get, it is likely that you will fill your trolley up with unnecessary items, and will have to go back to the supermarket a few days later. However, if you plan your meals and write down everything that you need for the week, you can save a lot of money because you won’t need to go back. You will save a lot of money on your shopping bill, and a lot of time and fuel because you won’t need to go back and forth.

Replace your light bulbs with LED bulbs

LED bulbs are more expensive than incandescent bulbs, however, they will save you money in the long run. LED bulbs last much, much longer than incandescent bulbs, and it has also been proven to reduce your energy consumption significantly. So switching to LED bulbs will save you money when it comes to your energy bills. You could even replace your kitchen light with a dimmable high bay LED light.

Prepare lunches

Instead of paying for lunch for you and your family every day at work or school, it can work out significantly cheaper to make a packed lunch to take with you. You could prepare them all at the beginning of the week, or prepare them fresh every day. There is also the option to get reusable bottles that you can fill up with drinks, so there is no need to buy drinks either.

Not only will it help you to save money, but it also means that you can make sure that your children are healthy by keeping an eye on what they are eating.

Fix things instead of throwing them away

It is not uncommon to be guilty of throwing things away before you have a look whether you can fix it. If a hole appears in your favorite jacket, you don’t need to throw it away, just get out a needle and thread and repair it. Too many people are used to throwing away items because they know that they can go out and buy something new. However, you will save so much money by trying to fix things first.

Get a pay-as-you-go phone

Phone contracts can end up costing you a lot of money every month. Your phone may be a necessary item, but it doesn’t mean that you have to spend so much on it. If you can buy a phone outright, or keep the one you have when a contract ends and switch to pay-as-you-go. It will reduce your bill significantly, you won’t get any surprise charges, and you can keep your phone until it needs replacing.
