I personally have never loved driving in the rain; especially in the dark. It is hard to see because visibility is less than perfect and you don’t always have control over your car. There are more accidents during this time because not everyone is sure of what to do.
With spring around the corner, I’m sharing some tips that will help with driving in the rain. Spring is

Think and stay alert
Make sure you change your thinking when it comes to driving in the rain. Obviously, it isn’t the same as driving normally. You have to be alert and stay focused on your driving. This will cut down on problems in the future.
Have your headlights on
It is a law in Ohio to have your headlights on when it is raining. But even if your state doesn’t have that law, turning your headlights on will help with visibility for not only you but for other people around you. They will be able to see you better with your headlights on.
Be Careful when Hydroplaning
When your tires lose traction due to excess water on top of the road, that is called Hydroplaning. Your vehicle will begin to slide uncontrollably. It’s easy to hydroplane: all you need is a small amount of rain on the road and a speed of more than 35 miles per hour. If your tires have a lot of wear and tear, you are more highly likely to hydroplane. If you start to hydroplane, let off the gas pedal slowly, and steer straight until you regain control. If your car starts to spin, turn your wheel in the direction that the vehicle is spinning, slowly.
Turn off Cruise Control
Cruise control can cause you to lose control when there is rain or snow on the roads. When using cruise control, it keeps to car at a constant speed. The problem is that if you hydroplane, the car will speed up because it doesn’t feel as if it’s going the correct speed.
Slow Down
Overall, if you feel uncomfortable driving in the rain, slow down. The higher the speed, the less control you could and will have over your car. Slow down and allow some extra time to get to you destination.
If, after all these precautions, you think your car still feels like it is unsafe in the rain, then take it to a local mechanic to get it checked over before the bad weather hits again. There may be an issue that you have not spotted that results in your car handling poorly, such as worn tires. Sometimes a mechanic may recommend that it is time to get a new car. If a new car in your area is expensive, look at comparable cars in other countries and shipping quotes from a company like CarsRelo. It could be that this is a more cost-effective way of purchasing a car that is safe and suitable for your lifestyle.
Remember, you are likely to be transporting your most precious cargo, your children, in your family vehicle. It is vital that you feel confident in its ability to handle the roads in any weather condition.
