The photographer in me loves to take drives through the country and basically anywhere that looks beautiful. Not just to take pictures but for the calm of it all. For the natural beauty in our world every day.
Fall is what really gets me, though. The changing of the leaves and the beauty of the season is awesome. Yes, I do love the pumpkins and the temp dropping but I love what the season does to our trees the most. Fall is the perfect time to take a drive and check out the foliage and one of the places to do that (and not go too far) is Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania has some of the best places to see fall foliage.

New Castle to Slippery Rock
This is a drive down Pennsylvania State Route 108 from New Castle to Slippery Rock. It shows you a display of shimmering yellow maples and brilliant red oaks that runs about 16 miles. You can also take a self-guided walking tour of the historic homes of New Castle and stop at McConnell’s Mill State Park and Moraine State Park.
Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway
The Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway is a journey that will delight you and your family. From the hillsides to rushing waterfalls, beautiful farmlands to architectural sights, the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway has it for you. During this 68 mile drive, make sure to check out Ohiopyle State Park, the gorgeous Youghiogheny River, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater.
Elk & Clinton County Scenic Loop
This drive begins at St. Mary’s on Pennsylvania Route 120. You travel through Bucktail State Park, Lock Haven, Renovo, and the mountains of Emporium along the west branch of the Susquehanna River and the Sinnemahoning Creek and back to St. Mary’s on Pennsylvania 255. The fall colors are breathtaking! Don’t miss out on the Flaming Foliage Festival at Renovo the second weekend of October.
Raccoon Creek State Park to Waynesburg
This trip will take you past lots of area farmers markets where you can buy everything from pumpkins to apple cider. If you have time for a few detours, check out Greene County’s beautiful covered bridges. You will love Raccoon Creek State Park! And it isn’t too far from Rotolo’s.
