Wedding spending can be tricky. There’s so much pressure from everyone around us and gorgeous Pinterest boards and Instagram to have the perfect day. But, ultimately, what you get out of a wedding is, well, a marriage. And a couple of other things. Below, you’ll find some of the items we think are important because you’ll get to hang on to them. Read on for the wedding-related things you might want to save up for.
The Rings
Both engagement rings and wedding rings, these are bands that you’ll wear for the rest of your life. Every time you look at them, they’ll have meaning and significance and represent the love and marriage you share with your partner. Something to think carefully about when selecting them to make sure you find something that you’ll love and want to wear forever. Remember, the dress is just for one day, but the rings are for life.
Relationships
Okay, so this one might sound a bit vague at first, but wait for it… Your wedding day really is just one day. And it might be a day that everyone seems to want to interfere with and get involved in, but it will last all of 24 hours. And we’re a different person every day so the wedding that you think best represents you when you’re 27 isn’t going to be the same wedding you would pick at 37. With that in mind, it really isn’t worth losing family and friends over.
If your mom wants to be involved or buy you something, just be gracious about it. She’s (usually, anyhow) doing it because she loves you and has your best interests at heart. If your friends are causing you trouble, then ask yourself is it really, REALLY worth losing someone who has been your best friend since you were children over the fact that she doesn’t want to wear a certain dress? Be chill, let her wear whatever she wants. She’ll return the favor when it’s your turn. And if she doesn’t, that’s when you can hit the unfriend button…
But in all seriousness, your wedding is for one day, your friendships are for life. Think really carefully about what’s worth more to you.
PhotographsThis is something else you get to take home with you and keep forever. Your wedding pictures will also be passed on to your children and grandchildren (if that’s the path you decide to follow). We aren’t saying completely blow your budget on the photographs, but getting a photographer is definitely something you won’t regret. Look for someone who will do candid shots, so you get all the cheeky little snaps of people having a good time.
Don’t rely on guest pictures. Firstly, it will be a nightmare trying to round up all the pictures from everyone who attended. And, not only that, but you’ll be sure to miss key moments if you’re relying on non-professionals to get the most significant parts of your wedding, like the vows and the first dance. They might not be there the whole day, but a good photographer will give you the memories to last a whole lifetime.
