Are you planning a family road trip this Summer? Roadtrips can be some of the most beautiful and fulfilling experiences a family can take part in. However, traveling with a family is never easy and comes with its complications.
Here are 7 tips for a successful family road trip.
Pack Snacks
“Mom! I’m hungry” is the most common complaint from the backseat of a family car. Make sure you pack a lot of varied snacks for your trip. Your little ones will soon get bored and want too much on something.
Variation is key here. You don’t want tons of the same slaty snacks. Get some healthy and sweet snacks too. You’ll save a fortune by not buying from road stops along the way too!
Make It as Leaning Experience
Provide your children with activities and fun games to do in the car. You don’t want them glued to a phone or tablet for hours on end. Instead, try to make games that incorporate the experience such as drawings things they see along the way.
Encourage questions about what they see out the window. It’s about the journey, not the destination.
Fuel Up
It’s wise to fuel up before you head out on the road trip. There is nothing worse than breaking down in the middle of nowhere with two or three very unhappy children. Take a spare jerry can full of gas also just in case.
For those with electric cars, make sure you download the tesla trip planner and coordinate your stops before you leave so you don’t get caught out.
Take Turns Driving
Leaving all the driving to one person is exhausting and can create arguments as the driver gets more and more tired and agitated. Instead, make a plan to change every couple of hours.
This way, both parents can spend time driving and spend time with the kids in the back. This helps reduce the stress of the road trip.
5. Prepare for the Worse
Road trips are unpredictable so make sure you are prepared. Make sure your car is in perfect shape before leaving. Carry a spare tire in the trunk. Have your emergency recover number at the ready. Have some sick bags for the kids just in case.
Make sure nothing can catch you out that might put a downer on your trip.
Create a Mixtape or Playlist
Music is your ally on a family road trip. Entertaining music will keep the kids happy in the back. Make sure to take some of your own music for you and your partner to enjoy also.
You can use music to create games too. Get the kids to sing along and have a dance. Anything to help pass the time.
Keep the Car Clean
There is nothing worse than building up trash in the car along the way. Make sure the kids have something to throw their trash in and at each stop dispose of everything properly.
It’s nice to keep the car feeling clean and fresh along the way.
