Decorating with Foliage

June 1, 2020 by Ashley T

You don’t have to be a plant lover to appreciate the aesthetic appeal that greenery brings to indoor spaces. At any time of year, plants and cuttings can add wonderful smells, colors, and textures to any room of the house, even if you decide to use faux greenery. Here are some great decorating tips for using plants indoors.

Artificial Plants

There are times when the use of real plants isn’t practical. If you simply don’t have the time to care for living foliage, or if you just want to make a temporary décor statement, then high-quality faux plants are for you. They provide the beauty of the real thing without the upkeep or mess. Thankfully, most artificial plants these days look so real that you have to touch them to be certain they aren’t – which is ideal for the busy modern life.

This holds true, especially in the frantic holiday season. Artificial Christmas trees made by companies like Balsam Hill provide years of enjoyment as the focal point of holiday décor, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Some are available pre-lit, and many trees now come scented just like their live counterparts. Best of all, there is no watering and no picking up stray needles from a live tree. Check out Balsam Hill reviews to see more fantastic faux holiday trees for your home.

Living Plants

Nature seems to know no limits when it comes to varieties of plants. Thankfully many can and have been adapted to be houseplants. Most are non-flowering, but some varieties like orchids and African violets are prized for their blooms. One of the best reasons to use houseplants for décor is that quite a few of them help with air purification. Plus, with the huge variety of planters available, you can choose fabulous combinations of plants and pots that will surely make a decorative statement in your home.

Arranged Plants

Most people think of floral arrangements as flowers, but you can make gorgeous arrangements from any beautiful plant. Popular cuttings of non-flowering plants include cattails, ferns, pussywillows, Bird of Paradise, tree branches, mosses, seed pods and ivy. You can buy them pre-arranged from your local florist, or you can have fun letting your artistic side free by designing arrangements yourself. There are great books, videos and internet resources available if you want to try your hand at the craft.

Plants make interior decorating simple because they are beautiful enough to make their own statements. Choose the right plants for your situation, faux or live, and enjoy the fantastic flair they add to your home.

Super cute! I love decorating with plants, sometimes you just need one to bring a whole room together. Also love the idea of flower-less arrangements
