Moving house can be stressful enough, without having to factor in having kids to look after too. A recent survey by removals company AnyVan.com revealed that 87% of parents find moving stressful and almost 20% find that the thing they worry the most about is looking after their kids or keeping them entertained on the day. This is not something you want to worry about on the day as you already have so many things to think about. From transferring your things from a storage unit such as Redland City Storage to your new home to unpacking everything, there is so much to think about. If you are moving with children and looking for some advice (or even reassurance!) here are some top tips for moving with children…

Get them involved as much as you can
Moving is a big deal and this change can be a reason that your kids play up. Instead, get them involved in as much as you can. Let them know well in advance that they are moving and get them to help you pack up certain things. Ask them to think about how they would like to decorate their new bedroom and take them on a trip so they can see the new house from the outside and visit the local area before you move.
Provide them with entertainment packs
On moving day it is a good idea to get some entertainment packs together for them for the day. After all, it is going to be a long day and you aren’t going to have a TV or working kitchen to hand. Put together a backpack with items such as a portable games console, some books, and plenty of drinks and snacks that will keep them amused.
Don’t show them you’re stressed
Children are very intuitive in picking up if you are stressed and can mimic this behavior. No matter how stressful the move might feel it is going, do your best not to let it show (at least not around the children.) If you are stressed and they become stressed and misbehave then this is not going to be good for anybody!
Get external help if you can
You might find it easier to get external help if you can. This could be your children going round to a friend’s house, being at school, or enlisting a family member to look after them. This way they are out of your hair while you get everything organized as much as you can. It will also be a nice surprise for them to see their new rooms ready for them when you pick them up!
These are just a few top tips for moving home with children. Remember that while moving home is a stressful experience, it is also an extremely exciting one. You are heading off to start a new life in a new home where you will make countless memories that you can look back on fondly in the future.
