Moms juggle a lot of different aspects of life. From work to home to personal life, you do a lot. Working moms know how hard it is to find balance in their lives, and it doesn’t matter if they are still working from home or if they are back at the office. No matter where you are working, the tasks and demands on you seem to pile up. Here are some of the best tips for making sure that you can find that balance and keep from getting too weighed down.

Make a Workspace
It doesn’t matter what kind of work you do, you have to have a space in which to do it. That will look different for every person, but the basic concept is universal. Your workspace needs to be optimized for the work you need to do and how you work best.
Your space at your workplace is already designated, so that makes this step a little easier. Because you have a designated workspace already, all you have to do is make sure it is functional. You want to make sure you have everything where it needs to be for easier access. You also want to make sure that it is the place you want to be. Bringing in a plant or pictures to put on your desk to make it your own.
If you are working from home, then this step is even more important and may take some more time. You need a place to work that is away from all your other responsibilities. If you can do this in a separate room, you should. If not, then have a specific place where you can work with all the information you need. You may need access to probation information or online databases for scheduling or accounting software. Whatever you need to do your job, you need to make sure that you can get to it easily and distraction-free.
Make Personal Goals
You are so busy supporting everyone else in pursuit of their goals, you may forget to make and work towards your own goals. It is very easy to keep putting off your goals and waiting until life seems less hectic, but if you are honest with yourself, you know that is never going to happen. There are always going to be a lot of things pulling your focus in different directions. If you have something you want to do, you shouldn’t put off doing it.
You can ask a supervisor for additional training at work so you can perform your job better or be more qualified for a promotion. You may also be thinking about switching careers. That will often require other training or education or certification. Look into programs that can help you do that. You can also get more education to finish a degree or get additional education. There are many programs that are geared towards working adults to help you reach your goals while still juggling everything else in your life.
Don’t Do it Alone
We often feel like we have to do it all on our own, but that is not the case. There are people around you that can help, and you shouldn’t feel like you have to bear the load by yourself. You may be able to do it for a little while, but eventually, you will not be able to keep up anymore. You need to ask for help.
Your partner and children should be helping you around the house. Having a family meeting where you talk about the responsibilities it takes to run a house and come up with a solution is a great way to problem solve as a family and take some of the burdens off you. Coming up with a system to rotate chores or assigning a specific chore to a specific person are both solid ideas that may work for your family.
There is something everyone can help with, no matter how young. Young children can learn to pick up their rooms before bed and take their plates to the kitchen after meals. They can also help with dusting or folding towels. Your first instinct may be to micromanage and redo everything they do afterward but resist that temptation. They will learn the more they do it.
The older they get, the more responsibilities they can take on. Learning to do basic life tasks will prepare them for their own homes and life after they leave to live on their own. All the basic chores like cleaning bathrooms, doing dishes, washing laundry, and vacuuming are all things they need to learn how to do that we may take for granted because we learned it so long ago. Taking the time to teach them how to do them will benefit you in the short term and them in the long term.
Next-Day Preparations
The mornings can be one of the most stressful times of the day. All members of your family are being pulled in different directions. Kids are getting ready for school or daycare and parents are getting ready for work. Everyone needs to be showered and dressed and out the door. They also need to eat breakfast and have a plan for lunches.
Taking a little time the night before to prepare for the morning can help it not be as stressful. Checking homework and getting backpacks ready and by the door can eliminate unexpected delays in the morning. You can also set out clothes the night before and pack lunches for the next day. Removing some of the steps from your morning routine will make it seem less rushed.
Make a Plan
You should also approach each day with a plan. You need to know when you will be working and when you will be done working. If you are working from home, these lines can get blurred, so it is important to set up clear boundaries. Even if you are working outside of the home, it can be easy to bring work home with you.
