How To Keep Your Road Trips Exciting & Fresh

June 10, 2021 by Ashley T

If you’re anything like us, you do all you can to get behind the wheel and travel somewhere new. The last year has certainly made the humble road trip a lot more appealing, as it’s perhaps one of the only means of vacationing long-distance we’ve had afforded to us in that time.

For that reason, you might be a little burned out of burning rubber on the road, despite how much fun this can be. Yet road trips need not get stale if you don’t want them to. With a few techniques, the willingness to try something new, and a little investment, you can truly make the most of road trips and all they entail, all for the better.

In this post, we hope to discuss a few measured geared to helping you with exactly that. It might take a little time to achieve, but if you focus on just what you’re missing out on, and integrate some tips, you’ll no doubt see just how you’ve only been scratching the surface of your road trip potential.

Let’s get started with some advice, then:

Plot A Purposeful Trip

A road trip can be fun when taking it in a day-by-day fashion, that is going from place to place without much of a plan. Of course, road trips are by definition freeing, meaning that provided you have the fuel and the funds to keep your trip going, you can pretty much travel anywhere within your country (and often, out of it).

Yet if you feel that you wish to spice up your road trips, orbiting them around particular events can inject them with new life. For instance, now restaurants are starting to open up again, you may find an amazing pursuit in trying to enjoy the best craft beer and charcuterie down the side of the coast. Perhaps you could open a YouTube channel and review each place on the way, or maybe you could just search for the hidden gems recommended to you and write your thoughts about them for posting on your blog.

Of course, now that society is slowly starting to open up again, it can be a nice idea to see your family in person again. Perhaps a road trip could be defined by visiting all of your cousins, your grandparents, and whoever else may be met in a line from your home. Mini-goal-setting like this can help each trip take on a novel feeling, and you’re sure to have achieved something at the end of your trip worth remembering.

Upgrade Your Wheels

It’s a great idea to upgrade your vehicle from time to time, but especially if you hope to enjoy countless road trips. Road trips are just less comfortable, interesting, and reliable when you suffer endless breakdowns, have limited internal space, or simply feel uncomfortable in its handling.

This is especially true if your road trip might encompass rurally or even off-roading necessities. Upgrading your wheels can simply mean taking the time to click here and seeing what Jeep options are available. Selecting a vehicle (and trading in your own) more capable and competent in dealing with your road trip plans can help elevate the experience like nothing else, and you may even be able to haul caravans or other trailer additions with a vehicle that has power and traction, further increasing your utility on the road.

Upgrade The Interior

Upgrading the interior can also help you enjoy your road trip more readily. Replacing old, battered seats with new designs, installing cup holders, and of course, purchasing a top box you can store your luggage in so you don’t have to sit on top of it within the car can give you space to think.

For some, upgrading the interior may just mean giving it a deep, professional clean after each road trip, as it’s amazing how dust and dirt can accumulate even if driving in wet and relatively peaceful environments.

Camp Out & Haulage

It can be nice to camp out when appropriate. Spending time in hotels is of course comfortable and enjoyable, but there’s something slightly missing from your road trip if you only use them, depending on your needs of course.

It might be that hauling a caravan, using an RV for your road trip, or camping out with an awning or separate tent can be a tremendous help in getting you out in nature. There are many essential camping grounds all over the country with a range of amenities, and they have been absolutely desperate for more travelers to come and make use of their facilities in a post-pandemic world.

From campfires with marshmallows to seeing the beautiful vistas you just can’t get from a hotel window, there are many benefits to camping out. If anything, it can help you decompress from spending time behind the wheel, as natural and fresh air is always something to appreciate.

Taking Turns

It can be tremendously helpful to take turns driving with those who are in the vehicle (provided they are licensed and insured). You might take it day by day, or you might simply pass over each leg of the journey to your partner. This can help you avoid feeling burned out after driving so many miles because despite how simple driving can seem when doing it long-distance, it is tiring.

Frequent Rest Stops

It’s also important to remember that frequent rest stops should be the hallmark of any road trip. There’s no need to travel for thousands of miles without a break, and in fact, this can put you in harm’s way. Don’t be afraid to spend an afternoon here, or to stop off for lunch, or to pull over for a quick nap if necessary and safe.

This can help the entire affair feel more enjoyable and less like a chore. It will also keep you alert and safe on the roads.

With this advice, we hope you can continue to keep your road trips feeling exciting and fresh. From that point on, you’re sure to enjoy yourself.
