Thanks to the NAIC for sponsoring this post. I was compensated in the form of a gift card. All opinions are my own.
Before my husband and I got married, there were many conversations we had regarding our future. Most of it was regarding what we wanted to do in life and how we were going to try and get there. We pretty much knew what the plan was to join us together: he let me worry about health insurance and I let him worry about the car insurance. Unfortunately, none of our conversations were about life insurance. We were 19 and never even thought about that type of stuff.
According to a survey done by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), 61% of couples age 18-24 said they talked about combining auto policies before getting married, but only 30% cited ‘my spouse’s diving record’ as an important conversation to have before marriage. Your spouse’s driving record is a key factor in calculating premiums. This is why the NAIC suggests having “the talk”: they recommends couples have a pre-wedding sit-down to address important topics.

Without discussing all of those, you could end up being under covered on things that are seriously important. This guide will give you and your spouse sound advice to make the transition an easy one for all types of insurances. Check out the PDF on this link. One the bottom, you can play the “I Do” adventures game. Can you beat my score? I got 1050 points!
