So, we’re in that stage where my husband wants a new car.
I’m sure you saw my post about searching for a new car, but we haven’t actually started because for 1, he has a car that works just fine and for 2, I’m just not ready to go through the process.
I know the car isn’t for me but we’ve gone through this before. If you’ve been reading for a while, you know that we bought my car almost a year and a half ago because mine just crashed. But before that, I had held off buying a car for a while. My car was 9 years old and had been paid off for 4 years. I was happy with no car payments. At one point, we didn’t have a car payment at all. That changed when my husband decided that his car was too old and he HAD to get another one. I held it off for a year but ultimately just gave in. I hated the idea of having more debt but he wanted a better car and I couldn’t keep him from that.
Now I’m sure if I walked up to him today and said “Hey, let’s head to Saint Mary’s Chrysler and pick out a Jeep Cherokee”, I’m sure he’d be in the car before I would be ready to go. He knows how apprehensive I am about the process and how I don’t want to increase our payments or debt, but I can see the want and need in his eyes.
I think overall, I’d love to just drive around in new cars all the time. You know how fun that would be, having a new car every year? I’d love that! But that’s not feasable for us (and for most people) so I try to be the reasonable thinker in the family. He may not like it, but he listens. 🙂 How do you handle larger changes in your house?
