In about 5 or so years, we will have a teenager who is old enough to drive in our household. It’s hard to think that our Hayden will be able to sit behind the wheel and drive off without an adult in the car. Seriously, I’m tearing up already.
This has gotten me thinking about a plan for a car for him. It is never too early to figure that out. When I grew up, I didn’t get a car however, my husband got a used car roughly 10 years old. Both of us had a job when we were old enough to and were responsible. But I’m totally unsure of what the plan is with our own children.
Either way, it is something to talk about and also figure out what the best car is for your teen.
Before picking a car, you’ll have to decide about payments, how much you can afford and what you’d like the child to help with. A discussion between you and your spouse should happen first; then one with your child would happen before the car search begins. That way, everything that could possibly come up as a problem will be covered before a car exchanges hands.
Here are a couple of cars that have a great safety record and would be perfect for your teen driver.
2016 Ford Fusion
2014 Chevrolet Malibu
2015 Chevrolet Equinox
2015 Nissan Altima
2014 Chevrolet Equinox
2014 Kia Optima
2014 Honda Accord
2014 Ford Fusion
2014 Toyota Camry
2014 Nissan Altima
These aren’t terribly old cars and you can find them at the dealership at a great price most of the time. make sure you do your own research and look up safety recalls and the carfax before making the purchase. Happy car hunting.
