Formal dresses: how to love your choices

February 19, 2021 by Ashley T Leave a Comment

Planning a formal outfit can be quite an ordeal, from the research phase to the buying phase. The best advice anyone embarking on this course can take is to let the type of event be the first point of guidance in the choices they make when looking for the perfect formal dress.

Do your homework

Online research doesn’t take a lot of effort, and the smallest search could go a long way in helping you understand what is out there, and what you would be interested in buying. Research is important to help you wrap your head around the selection of formal dresses out there – to understand the different cuts, regional fashions, to figure out what lengths are currently fashionable and which are timeless, and how all this information relates overall to you and your personal interests.

A constantly moving landscape

Industry experts believe that great things are in store for the development of the formal dress, including a downswing in muted colors, and an upswing in bright ones. A wider selection of color options broadens the scope of that which you have at your disposal to choose from, and by picking the right color for your skin tone, you will be able to harness everything you like about your physical appearance and bring the strongest of these aspects to the fore with minimum effort.

What’s your style?

If you have simple taste, but still like the idea of looking elegant and glamorous, you can’t go wrong with the classics slip style dress. Although the look is basic and pared down, it can quickly be taken to dramatic heights with the right use of accessories and jewellery. Fresh make-up, natural hair and dainty shoes complete the look for a fresh crispness.

Soft fabrics have earned their place in the world of the evening dress, and with good reason. It brings softness and it flows; it brings an energy to the garment and has a way of flattering most figures.

Personality first

If you are uncomfortable in it, the greatest formal dress on earth will not reach its full visual effect. Being uncomfortable in what you’re wearing has a strange way of translating to your body language, so make sure that the dress you choose “feels like you”. This means it should falls within your taste, reflect your personality, and be of a colour that makes you happy. This is the perfect combination of factors for a winning outfit!

Some recent designs of leading designers have featured an asymmetrical line to create visual interest, and which guides the sightline across different areas of the dress.

Another technique that creates visual interest is to use multiple layers of fabric to create drapery and texture around the body. Different cuts and colors can be combined for different effects, but regardless of which you choose, the most important part is that you enjoy wearing it.  This is essentially the quickest shortcut to buying a winning dress that you can wear several times, and turn heads with every single event.
