In a couple weeks, we’ll be taking a family road trip. It’s early in the season for us but we do it often and the kids love it. There are things I always make sure to pack before heading out on a short or long road trip. So after taking my car in to get checked over by the dealership, here is what I load up into my car for trips.

Smartphone– Your smartphone can help in many ways! It can help you navigate to where you need to go (and find fun places to stop). It can help you get help if you need it. You can also keep in touch with your loved ones this way. Just don’t forget your charger! I always have a car charger and one for the hotel.
Basic Road Kit– I always keep a basic kit in my trunk just in case. I’ve changed a tire before but I have very little experience doing anything else. This is why I also have roadside assistance. You can get AAA.
Spare Cash/ Emergency Credit Card– Just like anything could happen with your car, you can’t imagine how much it could cost to fix it. Always make sure you have money somewhere just in case.
Snacks/ Water– I don’t like to stop too often when headed somewhere so I always tend to pack snacks… especially with children. Snacks and bottles of water help me keep from stopping every 1-2 hours and stretches us to 3.
Paper Towels– A spill happens, especially with bottled water on board. Make sure you have paper towels or napkins within easy reach.
Co-Driver– This one is very important to me. I can’t do the full drive by myself. I’ve done it before, don’t get me wrong but I prefer to have someone with me who can drive just in case. I think it’s just a comfort thing for me.
