Honey Sesame Chicken with rice

November 6, 2012 by Ashley T

Planning to cook for a 2 families is hard, especially when everyone has tasted your “go to” dishes. So yesterday I was on a mission to find something different to feed my brother in law’s family and my own last night. Without hesitation, I turned to pinterest. Yes, I tend to find tons of new recipes to try on Pinterest. Thanks to The Life & Loves of Grumpy’s Honeybunch, I found a tasty honey sesame chicken recipe. Of course, I’ve made it my own because it wouldn’t be a dinner without stir fry veggies… and I hate having “crunchies” on my food so the actual sesames were out. But here it is, try it out… make it your own!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz  chicken breast, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cooking wine
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • Frozen stir fry veggies

Sauce:( I doubled the sauce since I added Veggies)

  • 1 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1-2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions
Marinate chicken in soy sauce, wine, sesame oil and sugar.
Mix flour and cornstarch and place in a large ziploc bag.
Drain chicken (if needed) and add to flour mixture.  Shake gently to coat.
Fry in hot oil (350 degrees) until golden brown.  Drain.
To make sauce, mix chili sauce, ketchup, honey, oyster sauce, soy, sauce and water in a medium sauce pan or wok.
Bring to a boil then simmer until sauce begins to thicken.
Toss sauce in the chicken pieces and frozen veggies sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.

This sounds so yummy! I totally have the problem of having "used up" all my good recipes when company comes over and am always nervous about trying something I hadn't made before. I'll have to try this out soon.
