How Dryer Balls can make you eco friendly

January 28, 2013 by Ashley T

I have always been concerned with the amount of chemicals that my family comes in contact with. And not just the kids, I used detegent with no additives and dyes before the boys were born. My main problem was the dryer. I didn’t know any alternatives to dryer sheets other than nothing.. which didn’t have anything because all of our clothes would be dry but super wrinkles and lots of static. Not cool at all.

I was introduced to dryer balls shortly after Noah was born but wasn’t quite sure if I was interested in trying them. I was confused about how many you needed and what exactly they could do. But I bought some and tried it out. I didn’t buy enough. So thanks to Woolzies Dryer Balls, I’ve finally got the right amount of balls to work for my dryer but also shorten my dryer time.  It is recommended that you have 6 dryer balls in your dryer to help your clothes dry. Unlike dryer sheets, dryer balls bounce around your dryer which moves the air around your dryer better, which helps your clothes dry faster. Having dryer balls can cut down on drying time by about 25% in large loads and as much as 35-40% in small loads. This of course saves both time and money for you and energy for the environment. These balls are made from 100% pure wool and are a natural laundry softener. Because the balls are hand made, they can and will be different sizes but that doesn’t change what the balls do for you.

I love having dryer balls. I hated having the dryer sheets because they stuck to everything and filled the trash can. Since the dryer balls last for 1,000 loads, you aren’t wasting your money on something you throw away right away. Also you are saving time, energy and money. We haven’t noticed much of a change in time but that isn’t because of the balls. We have an issue with the vent for the dryer so the clothes take longer to dry as it is. I will say that a normal load of clothes will finally dry without restarting the dryer. Once we get the vent fixed, I’m hoping I can dry a load in under 6 minutes. Here’s hoping!
