How To Make Your Car Baby Friendly

November 3, 2020 by Ashley T

For many, the first place a baby experiences outside the hospital is not their nursery or even their bedside cot. Usually, before they get there, they are taking a trip in a vehicle. While many of us fret over precisely the right mobile to hang above the crib or the best colors for the nursery walls, few of us spend the same amount of time making sure our car is baby ready. But with over 93% of American households having access to a car, it is more crucial than ever that we make sure our vehicles are safe and secure for our precious new arrivals.

Baby Seats

There is an excellent range of baby seats out there. They can range from first use all the way up to childhood. Find one that best suits your car and lifestyle. Consider buying it with your pram as part of a complete travel system. Also, ask around with friends to find what they have found reliable. Check your local laws to ensure the seat meets regulations and try to buy new ones. You might not know the history of a second-hand car seat, and if it has been involved in a collision, it may have lost its durability.

Be Prepared

No one wants the worst to happen, but you want to know that you can act swiftly if it does. Research who are the most reliable and successful car accident lawyers are in your area, so you have their details to hand. You will want to know that your baby can get the best care possible, and lawyers protect your interests in these situations.

Keep The Car Organized

If you are the type of car owner who treats it as your personal dumping ground, then things might need to change. You don’t want your baby to be wailing as you scramble around trying to find the dummy. Similarly, if your car is compact, then the organization will be critical. Babies might be small, but they do not travel light. They usually have change bags, prams, and all other types of accessories and toys. To fit all this in and still have space for your car essentials, think carefully about how to pack the car and lose anything that isn’t necessary.

Keep It Clean

Likewise, if you are frequently eating on the go as you travel, your car might be full of empty juice bottles and crumbs galore. But this is not hygienic, and for a baby, you will want to up those standards. You don’t want to put your baby into a sealed chamber effectively if bacteria or germs have been growing on some loose bits of food for days or weeks. Wiping the car down as often as you can make it more child friendly.

Accessories

Many accessories can help your car become baby-friendly, such as sunscreens and a rear seat mirror.  Many suitable options are available at reasonable prices, so you don’t need to break the bank, but investing in these items might be a godsend when planning a long journey with the baby in the back seat.
