As parents we often wish we had a magic wand to wave and make all of our children’s anxiousness, fears, and tears disappear. Often, that is harder said than done. When your child has anxious feelings, the task of helping them cope becomes more difficult. Whether your child is toddler-sized or teenage-sized, there are ways to help.
Try Natural Remedies First
It can feel like a relief to finally know what is going on with your precious little one – but what happens next? doTERRA says that essential oils can help with anxious feelings. Natural remedies can be an option for kids. Essential oils have long helped those struggling. The right mixture can offer relief and have a calming effect. Lavender and eucalyptus are great options to begin with while vitamins like Omega 3 Complex, found in salmon, can also work wonders on emotional imbalance. You could even add terpenes mimicking one of California’s staples into soaps, lotions, or even an essential oils diffuser to further promote calm and relaxation.
Communicate
Like every area of parenting little ones, communication is key from a young stage through adulthood. It is one of the single most important things a parent can do with their child, in hopes that the child will reciprocate when needed. Letting your child know you are there for them during the good times and bad, including when they are feeling anxious, will calm a child down.
If your child is nervous about the start of preschool or kindergarten, then meet with the teacher before the start of the school year. This will give you an opportunity to introduce your child to the teacher ahead of time so that you can open lines of communication in the classroom. This will help your child feel comfortable in a space where parents aren’t around. When a child feels safe, they will have more confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Spend Time in Nature
When all else fails, taking time to reconnect with nature simply by stepping outside to breathe in the fresh air and take a look around. Another way nature can help is through the sun. Vitamin D can help not only alleviate anxiousness but will also improve overall mood and energy levels.
Sitting still and soaking in nature while breathing calmly also helps, but depending on the child, a little exercise outside to help relieve some stress might also be just the ticket. Either way, stepping foot outdoors is a great way to calm the nerves.
It can be painful to watch your child struggle from anxiousness when all we want is to see them smile. Fortunately Mother Nature offers plenty of ways to help, no matter the age of your child.
