We are coming up on our last couple of weeks of summer and it’s important to make sure you take your summer trip if you were planning on it. Don’t have one planned? It’s super easy to do an inexpensive road trip that you and your family will love. Here are some tips for planning your road trip to end your summer.

Plan your budget and stick to it
Since it is last minute (or at least less time then you’d normally have), figure out your budget and make sure you don’t go over it. You’ll want to make sure you include a hotel stay, gas, food, fun, and an emergency fund in case of a blown tire.
Get your car checked before leaving
You need your car for a road trip. Taking your car in to the dealership (or where ever you do your check-ups) before leaving make sure you know the condition of your tires. This is also the perfect time to get an oil change and any other things that your car may need.
Plan where you want to go
With younger kids, you’ll want to stay closer to home than you would with older kids. We also plan around a 6-hour drive: not super long but far enough to get somewhere we may have never been. Have you ever checked to see what is 6 hours away from you? We took a trip to St. Louis and it is a little over 6 hours away. This was when Olivia was a baby and the drive wasn’t too terrible at all.
Book the hotel
Once you’ve plan where you are going and you know how long you plan on being gone, book the hotel ahead of time. That way, you make sure you have a place to stay when you get there. You can also buy tickets for some of the entertainment you plan on going to. That way, you can also make sure you stick to your budget.
Take your trip
Once everything is done, don’t forget to have fun!
Planning a last-minute trip doesn’t have to be stressful. Have fun so you can enjoy your time together before school starts back up.
