Recipe: Stuffed Shells

October 7, 2013 by Ashley T

I haven’t posted a recipe in a while and I’m kind of sad about that. No new recipes means that I haven’t been trying anything new. I’ve had a busy couple of months and just didn’t have the inspiration to create delicious food for myself or my family. But it looks like its back! So try this recipe yourself… switch it up and add or subtract something! I dare ya!

Stuffed Shells with Sausage

Ingredients:

  • 1 15-ounce container ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella
  • 1/2 roll of sausage (from breakfast section)
  • 25 jumbo pasta shells
  • your favorite spaghetti sauce

Stuffed Shells
Directions:

Boil the pasta shells. Make sure they are al-dente, you don’t want to overcook them or they will break apart when you fill them. I also only was able to get 20 shells into the pan. Make extra shells just in case a couple break.

Cook the sausage until there pink in gone, like cooking hamburger. It should end up in small pieces.

Mix the first 4 ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Once the sausage has cooled, add it to the mix.

In an oiled 12 x 9 pan, add about a 3rd of the sauce to the bottom. Spoon some of the mixture into a shell and place in the pan. Shells should be next to each other inside the pan. Top the shells with the rest of your sauce; cover.

Bake covered for 15 minutes; remove the cover and bake for another 15 mins. Serve.

I haven't made these in such a long time, they look so good to me. Great reminder seeing your post and I want to try with the sausage like you did

Thanks for the recipe, it sounds really good. I think I would also try substituting hamburger for the sausage or even ground turkey.
