How often do you test drive a car before signing those papers?
According to a survey by Cox Automotive, 55 percent of buyers test drive only one vehicle — the one they end up purchasing. I have to admit, I normally let my husband test drive the cars.. I feel more comfortable with him trying it out than me. It’s weird, I know. However, test driving multiple cars helps you know what you want, what you need and make sure you get exactly what you want. Here are some test driving tips for you when you are ready to hunt down that vehicle you want.
Do your homework
Figure out exactly what you want. If your current car is pretty old, do some research on the extra things that can make your drive more comfortable. Looking for a backup camera? Good news: most newer model cars have them since it is now law that all cars from May 2018 and newer must have one.
Schedule an appointment with a Car Dealer
Scheduling an appointment at several dealerships guarantees that the car(s) you want to test drive are available for that test drive. This also makes sure that you don’t purchase the first car you come across.
Pick a day only for the test drive
Doing all your test drives in one day helps you to realize what you love and don’t love about the cars you test drive. You can compare and contrast better when everything is done around the same time. Helps you make the best decision for yourself.
Bring a buddy
Having someone to test drive with you makes sure you don’t miss anything. This person would be acting in your best interest, so take care of your buddy!
Check the technology
Is there something that you must have? I love Apple Carplay. My current car doesn’t have it but it does connect by blue tooth so I can still listen to whatever I’d like without a problem. There might be something else you need that you didn’t even think of.
Drive the car
Make sure you take the car out to the places you would normally drive. I personally drive the highway a lot more than main streets so seeing how it runs on the highway is important. If you don’t love a bumpy ride, make sure you check that as well. You have to know how the car takes the different types of road.
