One of the best ways to have a great day is to start off in the right way, as soon as you open your eyes. The problem is, It is not always easy to leap out of bed and be ready to get the day going, especially in the middle of a global pandemic.
Here, we have put together a few tips to help you become more of a morning persona and get your day off to a great start.
Wake up at a time that works for you
Most morning guides will tell you to jump out of bed at the crack of dawn, but let’s face it, that is not realistic for most people. Instead, be guided by your internal body clock. If you are naturally a night owl, and your lifestyle allows it, sleeping in a little later in the mornings is absolutely fine. The same goes for if you are a person who can jump out of bed as soon as it starts to get light, The important thing, however, is to make sure you are consistent. Sleeping in for more than half an hour to an hour past your usual wake-up time will leave you feeling disorientated and groggy, and that is never a good way to start a new day.
Say no to screens
So many of us immediately turn over and reach for our cell phones the moment that our alarm goes off. In fact, for most of us, our cell phone IS our alarm clock. That’s all well and good until you realize just how much time you waste mindlessly scrolling through your phone in the mornings. It is rarely a good use of your time, and if you happen to come across a news article or a social media post that you don’t like, it can put you in a bad mood for the rest of the day. Put your cell phone on the other side of the room – another room, if at all possible – and use an old-fashioned alarm clock. You will be surprised at just how much faster you will get out of bed and get your day started.
Have a decent breakfast
If you are not normally a morning person, you may struggle to eat in the mornings, and end up reaching for an unhealthy snack mid-morning. If you can manage something in the mornings before you get going, do. It will kick start your metabolism and get your body and mind ready for the day ahead. A bowl of oatmeal with your favorite topping and a glass of cold press juice or yogurt and fresh fruit with your coffee are great breakfasts.
Stretch
Have you ever stopped and watched a cat stretch after a nap? They look like they are in heaven and that’s because it is easing off all the tension built up in their body during their sleep. As humans, we rarely stretch enough, so take the time in the mornings to stretch properly and see how you feel after.
