I figure it about that time for a hair update!
If you haven’t read this post about my natural hair journey, I basically gave up relaxing my hair and went for my natural curly hair. Its much different to manage of course and takes a little while for me to get used to but its something that I needed to do. While my hair was straight when it was relaxed, I could never grow it any longer than close to my shoulders before I have have the ends break off. And I hated that. I craved long hair. The last time I put a relaxer in my hair was the middle of September.
It has been 8 months since my last relaxer. I am proud to say that I have cut off all of the relaxed hair so the only hair left is natural. I might have a couple of stubborn ends that were from those relaxed days, but those will be taken care of when I head into a hair dresser to get my ends clipped. It took me a while to finally find a way to do my hair and like it. I’m still working on perfecting it though because I’m not a huge fan of the curly fro look that comes about after I wash my hair. I have done the wash and go (which produces this afro look) and I will wear it when I need to but I prefer my hair straight. Here is my new (and improved) hair routine:
- shampoo with natural shampoo (not every week)
- condition my hair
- deep condition if rough conditions (like chlorine or other things)
- comb and twist my hair in small peices
- let dry (most likely over night)
- flat iron while removing twists
I have started to wash my hair at night before bed so that I don’t have to leave my house with those twists in my hair. So when I get up in the morning, I flat iron my hair out after taking a shower. I no longer blow dry my hair because it dries my hair horribly and I can never come back from that without conditioning it again. It doesn’t take long and as long as I don’t do anything like swim or sweat a whole bunch, it will last me a week! Check out my current hair products!
I love Bee Mine products. I use the heat protector and Curls passion fruit curl control paste when flat ironing. The curl control paste goes in when twisting. I use the Cantu Shea Butter Daily Oil Moisturizer. I still need to get my ends clipped but I love the way my hair is coming.
*Update* I posted a new picture of myself with my hair out! Check out the post here!

Pictures of YOU please!
I will… I just hadn’t taking any recently!
Love this! But be careful, what you think are relaxed ends may just be heat damage (too much heat can cause similar effects).
Thanks! I do watch how much heat I out on my hair. Because I cut it myself, I’m sure I have some relaxed hair left an some damaged ends. But I also want my hair evaluated by a hair dresser so I will be going soon. 🙂
I can’t wait to see pictures of you, but please heed what Karlene just told you. I have suffered hair damage because of too much heat before.
You go girl! I am actually doing the same thing. Not sure how long its been, I do know that it has been a difficult journey as the recent days have been humid! I am pressing on – literally!!
Congrats on your hair journey. My last relaxer was December ’09. Thanks for your product list. I like to tinker with my regimen.
