5 Top Tips To Make Your Home More Child-Friendly

October 26, 2021 by Ashley T

For most parents, home decor is all about making a unique impression. But when kids come into the picture, everything changes – sharp-edged furniture becomes too dangerous, you begin to rethink your choice of paint, and you start wondering how to create a fun space for them. If you have little ones at home, you probably understand why you need to create a child-friendly, safe, and yet fun environment for them. So, are you thinking about transforming your living space to make it more kid-friendly? Here are some tips you could use.

Rounded furniture

The first thing you’ll want to look at is the type of furniture you have at home. Sharp-edged coffee tables, couches, tables, and other furniture items have been known to injure adults. Just imagine what they can do to your kids’ precious little toes. If you already have furniture with sharp edges, no need to get rid of them. To help reduce the risk of injuries, try applying edge protectors. If you’re now thinking about buying furniture, it’s best to pick options that come with soft, rounded edges.

Allow a few silly but safe elements

If you have kids at home, you can’t get rid of silliness, so why not embrace it instead? Try adding a few silly design elements to your home decor. Your little ones will love it, and your adult guests will understand – they might even find it amusing. You can try some fun art prints, a small wall dedicated to funny drawing, anything that’ll bring some laughter to your home decor. And who doesn’t need a good laugh?

Coat hooks

Most kids love coat hooks, and giving them the chance to hang their little coats like they watch their parents do, is something they’ll definitely love. Just fix a couple of these hooks next to where your regular hooks are, only this time, mounted at a height your child can reach. You can also create a space for their backpacks, and voila! You’re already helping them to stay organized.

Set up a play area

Play areas are much less difficult to set up, as you find easy-to-assemble kid’s playhouses for sale. You can either set up these playhouses indoors or outdoors. Since there is no play area without some mess, try incorporating various storage solutions and show them how to use them. This way, your kids can clean up and store their toys properly after a hard day’s work in the area.

Safety is key

Take the time to “sweep” every floor space off dangerous, fragile, or potentially harmful to kids. Put them at higher and safe locations or behind locked doors. This way, you wouldn’t need to scream “don’t touch that!” every minute. In addition to safety, you must consider your child’s health. Be sure to implement screen doors to keep insects out. You can also employ mosquito control professionals to implement effective measures.

Your home can be a haven for your kids once you leverage the right steps. Hopefully, you’ll consider these tips for the best results.
