I only breastfed Hayden for 2.5 weeks. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to, it was because my grandfather died when Hayden was 10 days old and my life turned upside down. I couldn’t focus on getting my supply up when my family was in mourning. So, I gave it up but was much more determined to do with the second.
When Noah was born, I did everything I could to keep the breast feeding going. It was hard, but I did the best I could. I explained what I was doing to Hayden so that he would feel comfortable. His explanation for breastfeeding? “I drink milk from a cup and Noah drinks milk from mommy”. That was fine with me! He was super helpful and even wanted to help me feed him. So, once I started pumping, he became the big brother that sometimes held the bottle. I never had any problems with Hayden whenever it came to taking care of Noah. He understood (for the most part) that Noah is a baby so he needs to be taken care of. He is such a wonderful big brother.
Hayden was always so helpful as a big brother that I’m not afraid to try it again. Number 3 couldn’t be that hard to breastfeed with 2 brothers to help right? Don’t worry, we haven’t been working on #3 yet but it is a wonderful thought to think about. Its definitely a challenge that I would be winning to pursue.
This post is part of the weekly Breastfeeding Blog Hop. This week’s topic is Breastfeeding with older children – aka BFing #2 (or 3 or 4…). Check out stories and tips from other moms who have been there below.

My twins were pretty oblivious to what was going on when Judah was born, they are finally starting to take notice of him and he’s almost 15 months old! I think when we jump into #4 i will have at least one helper out of the bunch 🙂
