I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday (for those of you in the US). Since I actually had a couple days off, I had some time to play around with my hair. If you haven’t been following my natural hair story, I started in October of last year… made some decisions, cut of the remains of my relaxed hair, made it to a YEAR in natural hair, and am happy with what I’ve been through the last year.
I really should say that I’m starting to get comfortable with my natural hair. I wear it curly and straight. But its like being born again. I’ve never had to figure out how I want to wear my hair. I never really researched hair styles because I could never grow my hair past a certain point. I realized last night that the spot on my head where the hair would always break off… its just as long as the rest of my hair. I don’t need pins and clips to hold that hair down. It seriously brought a tear to my eye. So getting to “play” with my hair was something I really enjoyed.
I did a side braid. Yes, my hair is finally long enough to hold a braid over the side of my head. I wasn’t sure if it would work. It also took me a couple of tries to get it to hold. And within a couple of hours the back had come undone. So it isn’t perfect, but its a start. I tried again the next morning and had a braid that lasted all day. I’m proud of what I’ve been able to do and where I plan on going with my hair. In a little over a year, the length and quality of my hair has passed what it ever was when it was chemically straightened. I’m happy with the decision to go natural.
