Taking a leap of faith: June brings new changes

May 20, 2014 by Ashley T

I’ve been preparing for a couple different things the last couple of months. But until I was certain that everything was going to change, I didn’t want to announce it and I didn’t want to jinx it. I wanted to be sure that I wanted to do it.. and make sure that we as a family would survive. After plenty of long talks and going over it as many times as we could, my husband and I are finally ready to take the jump.

For a couple of years, I’ve been talking about being a stay-at-home mom. I felt it was what I wanted to do and what I needed to do. However, circumstances kept that from happening. Even after I had Noah 3 years ago, I knew that we wouldn’t be able to make it if I quit my job. So I waited and watched as my husband graduated school and kept working. At the beginning of the year, I dabbled with the idea of staying at home during the summer. Would it work out? I played with numbers, did a bunch of scenarios… but there isn’t a way you can know for sure if everything will work out the way you want it to. So we revisited the idea every couple of weeks. Checked out where we were and where we could be. Finally it was time to make a decision: Do I stay at my job or do I leave?

Leap of Faith
Ultimately, I realized that without taking the leap of faith, I’d never know if we’d sink or swim. Its just something that needs to be done in order to follow your dreams. So I took a step back… found out what I love to do and started working on a plan to do what I knew I needed to do.

I’ve started my own small photography business. I love taking pictures so why not help other get those family photos that they long to have done. I can be shy at times so this is also helping me open myself up to new things: I can’t be that girl who shys away forever. Plus, I know that I won’t love sitting in the house with 2 crazy boys ALL THE TIME! I’ll need an outlet.

So yes, starting June 1st, I will be staying home with my boys and doing photography on the side. I will still be blogging of course and hopefully with the increased amount of time I can spend on it… I’ll be able to bring more to you guys. More recipes, more reviews… more life! I’m excited for this change and my family is too.
