My current wash day Routine

October 21, 2014 by Ashley T

I promised a couple of weeks ago that I would share my wash day routine. Honestly, I forgot. Its totally my fault. So here I am, crawling back and asking for your forgiveness as I share what I do. Some of the things I do, I adapted for a couple natural YouTube ladies and I’ll share who they are so you can follow them if you like. So let’s get started!

Pre-poo!

I start with dirty dry hair and seperating into 4 sections. I take coconot oil straight to the hair and work it into the one section. After that is worked in, I add conditioner to that section and work that in. My hair normally starts to get back its natural curl as soon as the conditioner is worked in. As you can see below, I use Tropical Traditions pure coconut oil (on sale for $7.99 for a 16oz) and Herbal Essences totally twisted curl conditioner. Sometimes I let it sit, other times I rinse it right out. It depends on how I’m feeling at the time. I got this idea from Whitney of Naptural85 on Youtube from her “25 minute co-wash + detangle video”.

Wash

I only shampoo maybe once a week. Depends on how much product I use in my hair that week. When I do, I use Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 renewal system shampoo. If you didn’t see it, I posted a review of that line. I rinse and then use the Herbal Essences conditioner and rinse. My hair is still in the 4 part during this time.

Deep Condition

With the masque and detangled

Sometimes, this is my favorite part of the process. By this point, my hair is clean but just hanging out. The deep condition gives it the last little boost it needs. Currently, I use the Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 renewal system hair masque. I occationally use it as a leave in conditioner but most of the time I let it sit for a while then rinse and style.

So after 3 years, I found something my hair likes and doesn’t take me a ton of time. I’m still waiting to see a difference in the length as well.. and I do notice a difference. If you look at the picture below, I dyed my hair back in Feburary. It has grown a lot since then. I’m happy with the result and can’t wait to grow out my hair more.
