Are You Really Taking Care Of Yourself?

March 20, 2020 by Ashley T

When it comes to being happy and healthy in life, you have to be proactive about it. Sometimes, you can think that it’s okay to leave this to chance. That, if you just soldier on with life, you’ll just naturally feel your best. But, that’s not always the way. Unless you’re really taking care of yourself, you may find that you burn out. Your health is precious. And there are many reasons why you should make your own health a priority as well as others. Because you know that you’re always making sure that the kids are happy and healthy – but you need to do the same for yourself too. Now, sometimes, the hardest part is knowing what you should do for the best.

When it comes to taking better care of yourself, you’ll be glad to know that you don’t have to do an awful lot more than what you’re perhaps used to. Sometimes, it’s more of an attitude shift that can help you out. When you are a lot more intentional about what you’re doing, you’ll find that it’s much more effective. When you start to slow down a bit and focus on more of the things that are going to give you more energy and make you feel good, everything improves. And you will find that you are happier and healthier overall. So let’s take a look at what you can do to take better care of yourself.

Getting Enough Sleep

First of all, one of the most important things that you can do for yourself is to make sure that you’re getting enough sleep. Sleep deprivation is real. And the consequences have an impact on your health. Sure, this can be hard when you have a newborn, but when your kids are older it’s essential for you to get as much sleep as you possibly can – and high quality sleep at that.

Staying Hydrated

From here, you’re then going to want to make sure that you’re drinking enough water. If ever you feel tired or hungry or low on energy, it may mean that you’re dehydrated. It’s not always easy for you to stay on top of your hydration levels when you’re busy – but it matters. Staying hydrated is one of the easiest ways to look after yourself. After a few days of drinking enough water, you’ll notice the difference.

Eating Well

Next up, eating well is going to make things feel so much better for you. If all you’re eating is junk, then it’s highly likely that you’re going to feel like junk. But if you’re making nutrition a priority, you’ll start to feel more energized. And this can impact on other areas of your health too.

Exercising

As a step on from that, exercise is important too. Deep down, you know that. However, it’s often a lot easier to say that you’re busy. But, when you’re able to get a quick workout in here and there, or go for a walk, or play a sport, you’ll find that you feel physically energized and you have mental clarity.

Going To Check-ups

Another thing that you’re going to want to make sure that you do as much as you can, is going to check-ups. This isn’t always something that you prioritize, because the kids come first. But you need to see the doctor or dentist or eye doctor and make sure that your eyeglasses are right. If you are staying on top of your own personal health, you’ll not only feel good but you’ll be better for others too.

Relaxing

Always think you’re too busy to relax? You’ll need to forget that attitude ASAP! Because if you don’t slow down, how you hit exhaustion real soon. So, make sure that you always get some time – even if it’s thirty minutes – to relax every single day. It will pay off in how you feel.

Working On Yourself

Finally, as much as you may not realize it, you also need to be spending time working on yourself – just for you. It really does matter. It can seem a little silly, but if you are not doing the things that make you happy, you may get more stressed out. Ever wonder why you feel lost or stuck sometimes? It’s likely to be because you’re not doing anything for yourself. Whether this is work or play – it’s important to have time to yourself, to work on yourself. Then, you’ll feel more content and like yourself again – not just mommy!
