I was given passes to see the movie before it hit theaters. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
Today is the day! The newest Marvel movie is now in theaters. If you know me, you know that I LOVE these movies. However, my husband does too. We didn’t have the chance to see the movie together so I allowed him to do the preview; his review is below.
Before we see his review, let me tell you about the movie:
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom. The film stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, with Annette Bening, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Paul’s review:
Captain Marvel opens with Vers, a soldier for an alien race called Kree, and her crew taking on a missions to rescue one of their spies. The spy has been captured by the Skrulls, the shape-shifting rivals of the Kree. During the rescue mission, the Kree soldiers are ambushed and Vers is captured but the Skrulls. When she awakens. she finds that she has been hung upside down in a device that the Skrulls are using to access her brain. While connected to the machine, she sees memories which are both unfamiliar to her but also undeniably hers.
Upon realizing she has been captures, Vers manages to break free from the mind-reading apparatus, fights off her captors and escapes the Skrull ship. Vers crash-lands into a Blockbuster video store on the planet C-53 (Earth) where she meets a young Nick Fury who’s help she quickly enlists to catch up the Skrolls who have followed her to C-53. Meanwhile, her fellow Kree crew members are trying to locate Vers and bring her safely home.
Faced with these mysterious memories that have been revealed to her, Vers must decode her past to discover who she is and unlock her true potential. Along the way she must decide who she can trust and who she cannot, what is real and what is not.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally given us its first female lead in blockbuster movie and it does not disappoint. The movie’s strong female-empowerment message is timely and valuable, if not a bit on-the-nose at times. This film delivers all the same high-intensity action you come to expect the from Marvel and should lead nicely into the next Avengers film.
