Get Relief For Your Postpartum Back Pain With These Tips

September 10, 2020 by Ashley T

Pregnancy and birth are a blessing to experience as a woman, but they both leave you with the discomfort that you didn’t know that you could experience. Your body twists and changes when you grow a human being and the strain on your back can leave you with aches and pains for years afterward. You can check out Movement 101 in Botany if you need any therapy for back pain. Sure, it’s been some time since you had a baby, but that doesn’t mean that you should have to continue to feel uncomfortable.

From the hormones that change and loosen your joints and ligaments, to the stretching uterus that pushes pressure on your lower back, you could be in a lot of pain and not know that it’s because of the pregnancies you’ve carried. But don’t worry, because it gets much better. You’ll notice the changes in your body are helping you get closer to labor and delivery.

You also use a lot of muscles in labor and birth that you wouldn’t usually use. You may have the best bed to sleep in, especially after reading Puffy mattress reviews, but that doesn’t mean that you’ve cracked the code for alleviating back pain. So, let’s check out some ways you can relieve yourself of the pain!

  1. Speak To The Doctor. You can talk to your doctor about your back pain and they can ensure that you are referred to a physiotherapist. They will be able to get you through some massage sessions to ensure that you get the best relief for the back pain that you are dealing with.
  2. Exercise. Yes, your back hurts, but gentle exercise that is low impact can help. Walking, swimming and even cycling can help you to strengthen the muscles in your back and improve your pain levels. You can make pelvic tilts a big part of your routine, too, and these can help you to strengthen your core, which will support your back.
  3. Posture. Stand and sit straight throughout the day. Whether you are holding your baby or sitting to watch television, choose a comfortable seat, and sit up straight while you’re in it. You need to make sure that your feet are slightly raised off the floor, too, so that you can be comfortable!
  4. Slow Down. If you are bending to pick your baby up or your things off the floor, slow down about it and bend from the knees and not your back. This is so important especially after you have had a c-section.
  5. Use Hot Water Bottles. Heat can help back pain, and easing the soreness and tension in your back is better done when you have heat on your side. Use heat patches and hot water bottles to help you to feel relaxed. You can find the same feeling when you immerse yourself in the bathtub!
  6. Be Aware Of Your Back. If you notice any other symptoms, such as numb legs, an inability to control your bladder or bowels, or an inability to stand straight, you need to get some immediate help. Cauda Equina syndrome is very real and with a weakened back, it can put a strain on you for the rest of your life. Get some advice if you are concerned.
