How to Feel More Confident and In Control as a Busy Parent

December 20, 2021 by Ashley T

As a parent, you want to make sure that you’re doing everything you can to bring up your child in the right way, but you also need to feel more confident in yourself too. When you feel confident and in control, you’ll feel better and you’ll also achieve more as a parent as well.

It’s easy to let your parenting duties consume you and every aspect of your life, but maybe it doesn’t need to be that way. Here are some of the many different ways in which you can feel more confident and in control as a busy parent, so read on now.

Find Time for You

First of all, you need to make sure that you’re finding a little time for yourself. Of course, when you’re a busy mother, this is much easier said than done but you definitely can’t afford to let that side of your life just completely disappear because that’s when you start feeling even more drained and as if your identity is slipping away and no one wants to feel that way. So now is as good a time as any to start finding a little time in your schedule for you and your personal priorities.

Exist in the Moment

Simply existing at the moment is something that’s not always the easiest thing to do as a parent. With so much going on and taking up your time and energy, you often miss the importance of simply being in the moment and existing. That time with your child is beneficial to both of you and when you make a conscious effort to live in the moment, you’ll also feel a lot less stressed out about things which is always a bonus. It’s definitely something you should try to focus on.

Refresh Your Wardrobe

If you’re feeling as if you never really make much effort as you used to with your appearance and that this is something that’s starting to knock your confidence, you could always look for ways to refresh your wardrobe and try something new with it. When you haven’t changed things up for a long time, a new look can really boost your confidence and sense of self-worth when it arrives, and that can only be a good thing for you.

Be Your Own BFF

Everyone needs a little reassurance from time to time, as well as a little kindness. Sure, it’s great when you get that from your friends and those around you, but sometimes you also need to be your own BFF. Try to be the person who’s kind to you; cut yourself some slack and stop being so hard on yourself. You’ll feel much more confident and in control of each aspect of your life when you’re treating yourself with kindness and not constantly being harsh on yourself.

Do Something New with Your Hair

Taking a new approach with your hair can really help you when you’ve been feeling down about your appearance. When you’re busy being a parent and you’re busy every day, your appearance understandably isn’t a priority. But if it’s starting to get you down and you want to feel good about yourself again, it might be time to try something fresh, new, and different. You can use a texturizing spray or you could go all out and let your stylist try something new. It’s entirely up to you but a change always makes a big difference.

Try to Be Decisive

Being someone who’s decisive and who knows what they want in life should definitely be a top priority for you. It’s something that we all need. When you’re not being decisive and you’re taking too long to commit to things, whether at work or in your personal life, it can start to impact your confidence negatively as well. So try to be the kind of person who knows what they want, and that might also mean putting your own needs first at times.

Take Time Out When You Need It

Taking time out from all of your responsibilities is something we all need to do at times. Of course, being a parent is a full-time job but that doesn’t mean you should feel ashamed of wanting some time to yourself as well. By taking a little time out and having a rest, you’ll actually become a much better parent in the long term. You want to be the kind of person who is rested and ready to take on all challenges for your family and your kids in particular.

Stop Comparing Your Parenting Skills

One of the things that lots of parents do but shouldn’t compare themselves to others. When you’re constantly comparing your own parenting skills to the skills of other parents, it’s never a good thing. Instead, you should try to only focus on what you’re doing and what you can do. Doing your best and being the best parent you can be will be more than enough for your children; comparing yourself to other parents rarely helps you achieve anything worthwhile.

Accept Imperfection

Finally, and something that connects to the previous point, you probably need to start accepting some level of imperfection in your life. Things are never going to be perfect and it’s a waste of your own time and energy to be constantly expecting them to be perfect all the time. That’s simply not how life works, so try to accept imperfection and embrace it. Your family doesn’t need things to be 100% perfect all the time for you all to be happy, loved and appreciated.

As you can see, there are lots of things you need to do if you want to feel more confident and in control as a busy parent and woman. You owe it to yourself to put in place the infrastructure needed to live your best life and exude the confidence that’ll take you far in life. Start by making the most of the ideas above.
