A cleaning routine can do a lot of damage to a home, and you might not even be realizing it! After all, you’re doing a great job of keeping things looking clean and smelling fresh, and why would a rigorous scrub of the skirting boards or a cleanout of the attic be bad for your four walls?
Well, when it comes to keeping your home safe and functional, some cleaning routines can be more of a hindrance than a help. Every property is built slightly differently, and everybody has their own idea when it comes to cleaning ‘properly’, and who knows if the two are compatible? And that’s something we’re going to explore in a little more detail below.

Too Much Lawn Maintenance
Your lawn might be a pride spot for you, but are you overdoing it on the cutting and caring front? Maybe you’re getting the lawnmower out once a week, and you like the look of short grass? Well, that’s way too often to encourage healthy grass growth, and you might be killing it all off in the meantime!
Similarly, maybe you haven’t watered the lawn quite right either? Using a hose or sprinkler system works, as the area spray stops water from getting trapped.
Too Much Moisture
Moisture really is the enemy of your property, thanks to just how damaging even a small damp spot can be to the structural integrity of your four walls. And if you’re a fan of spritzing antibacterial solution everywhere, or you run a wet cloth over everything, you might just be adding to the problem.
Because you need to keep things dry, especially when it comes to your foundation and your roof: indeed, the average roof repair job will cost over $500, depending on the type and materials it’s made out of. Try to avoid such an expense by running behind with a dry cloth as well, and make sure there’s always a clear venting system available in your rooms.
Too Little Attention to Detail
Now on the opposite side to the other points on this list, it’s time to think about your attention to detail or your relative lack thereof. Because even the hardiest and dedicated of cleaners can miss spots that desperately need a clean, and your house can suffer because of it.
Maybe you haven’t cleaned the gutters out in a few years? Maybe you haven’t checked on how the roof is laying in a longer period? Maybe you’ve neglected to recaulk that window seal, or you’ve not scrubbed that grouting between the backsplash down either? These are little but important jobs that often go neglected, and they’ll definitely need seeing too soon!
A cleaning routine can damage your home, in ways you might never even have considered before. So, to prevent any further potential damage from occurring, be sure to dial it back a little, or use different methods to achieve a clean home that you can be proud of.
