When Monsters Inc was released back in 2001, I fell in love. Yes, I was *ahem* 17 at the time but I never gave up my love for Disney movies. My husband and I would watch it and later introduced it to the boys after they were born. So of course we got extremely excited when we realized that Monsters University was being released.

Monsters University is a prequel to Monsters Inc so if you haven’t seen the first movie, you don’t have to rush out and rent or buy it to enjoy Monsters University. Thanks to Disney for releasing this synopsis of the movie:
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. — (C) Walt Disney
My review:
Seeing this movie made me renew my love for Monsters Inc. It gives you a better inside of Mike and Sulley.. you get to see them before they became great scarers and see how the got to the place they did. Mike wanted so bad to be a scarer and this movie explains how he got to the place he did. He isn’t the best scarer but he’s very smart. Sulley however, learns that he can’t just “scare”, that there is a science to it. That helps him get where he needs to go as well.
I’ve had a week to mull over the ending the message it seems to give and I have a love/hate relationship of it. I see it saying “Do what it takes to get what you want” and that’s great and all but I don’t like the fact that they broke the rules and still got what they wanted. Its not the best message to send to your kids right? I guess I can see it as “Even though you failed, you can still work towards your goal.” I don’t know I’m torn. That doesn’t mean I don’t like the movie.. my whole family loved the movie. This is the first movie that Noah (now 31 months; 3 in November) sat through the whole time without wanting to leave. If that doesn’t tell you whether or not the kids will like it, I’m not sure what will.
