Natural Hair update #teamnatural

December 31, 2012 by Ashley T

The last day of the year deserves one last update about how I’ve been doing with my hair. You know, a good ole natural hair update. So let’s see:

I have been natural for about a year and 3 months. I can’t even really believe it. My initial thoughts before going natural would be that it would be hard and that I wouldn’t be able to stick to it. I got to the point where I couldn’t stand having 2 different textures of hair on my head so I cut off the chemically straighten hair off my hair. Then came the point when I was freaking out because now I had a full head of natural hair and I wasn’t sure to do with it. Yep, if you are keeping up.. that is twice I thought about putting in a relaxer.

Once I got past the point of thinking that my hair is “nappy” and hard to deal with, it made it much easier to figure out what I could and should do with my hair. I tried different types of hair care products and have pretty much gotten down which ones I fell in love with. I’ve been on YouTube looking for help from natural hair vloggers on styles that would suit me. One thing I don’t like is that I don’t really see that many videos where people have the same length as me but again, I’m still growing out my hair so I try not to let it bother me. This is my hair length right now. I took these pictures yesterday before I washed my hair. Yes, it has been straight for a little over a week so I could see how long it was getting.

This length excites me. Yes, it is the same length all over my head but this is the longest its ever been even when I was chemically straightening it. The top was longer because everything was the same length before but now, I know how long it can become. I want it to grow out a little bit before before I do anything else to it. I’ve thought about coloring it but I’m not sure if I’ll actually go through with that. However, I wanted to try something new so I found a hair style that was on YouTube to try on my head. Hopefully sometime later today I can update this post with a picture of the actual style but for now you’ll have to check out SimplYounique’s Edgy twistout. Check out the video below!

Her hair is longer than mine but I think this look will work on me. *Post Update (even before it goes live.. silly me!) It was pretty slow at work this morning so I had some time to snap some pictures and get them posted!
