Our Sunday date with a fire engine

September 18, 2012 by Ashley T

This past Sunday, we took the boys on a little surprise. We have a relative that works at a fire station as a fire fighter… and was so excited to show them around the station and let them see all the huge trucks.

Hayden had never been at a fire station before…. at least up close. And I knew that he wanted to so he got the first view. Noah was more interested in being inside them then anything else. I’m not sure what was going on in his mind but every time we took him out of a truck, he got upset and just wanted to move on to another one.

This was one of my favorite pictures. Noah wearing Jennifer’s hat. It was too heavy just to let him wear it so it wasn’t actually on his head. But he felt important anyway. Hayden never got the chance to wear the hat because Noah refused to let him go into the truck by himself. I think that was our mistake on letting Noah go in first.

I am happy that Hayden is a patient brother and lets Noah share in his excitement. He wasn’t pushing him out or anything, he just let him hang.

I think Hayden’s favorite part was the ladder truck. Did you know that it takes 2 people to drive the ladder truck? The person in the back has to know how to drive backwards. I don’t know if I could do that! I think it would freak me out! But we did get the chance to watch it leave, which I think was Hayden’s favorite part. Have your kids ever visited a fire station?

This is so awesome! My nephew loves firetrucks/firemen/firestations so we're planning a trip to the local firestation for his birthday! I had never known that you can call ahead and they'll set it all up for you like a fieldtrip type thing where they can take a tour and try on the firesuits, sit in the truck... My nephew is so looking forward to it and secretly, so am I! I dont think I've ever been in a firestation! lol

Awww, those are good pics and I'm glad they got to see. My grandson was able to see the firetrucks last year at school. He hasn't seen inside the Fire station but that would be a fun thing to get to do. Something they'll never forget.

One more thing I wanted to say was I was impressed that Hayden used such patience with his brother. That tells me y'all are doing an awesome job as parents and they have respect for one another. So many kids would fight for their own way, that is awesome in my books...good job Hayden!

Thank you! and Yes, Hayden has so much patience towards Noah. Sometimes I don't know how he does it!

Watching it leave would be the best part, agreed! I don't think I could drive backwards lol.

Aw, such cute kids! We have a festival in our town each year and they normally have a fire truck or other vehicle (this year it was a tank!) to explore.

What a great experience for the kids! I remember going to the fire station as a kid and the pole they slid down. So glad they got the chance to see it!

This is so great, what wonderful memories. Once a year one of the local stations has a family day, and they let the kids go in the trucks, etc. They love it! Thanks for sharing your experience :)
