Transitioning into chores

April 15, 2013 by Ashley T

With Hayden turning 6, we’ve started thinking about chores for Hayden and possibly Noah since we really hadn’t thought about previously. Yeah, I know… we should have started a long time ago but there was never anything that we specifically wanted the boys to be doing. Plus, Hayden was always so helpful anyway.

The first thing I found is this Age Appropriate Chores chart made over at The Happy Housewife. It breaks up a basic set of chores that each age group can do. Of course not every kid can follow this chart but its an awesome starting point. I realized looking at the list that many of the things we already had the boys doing, however we never really referred to them as “chores”. It was just something we did. But since Hayden is in school and has learned about so many different things (including Jordans… yes, he asked me for a pair!) and he asked my husband for allowance and it freaked me out. I forgot what its like to be 6 and to have your own money. So we’re starting to implement chores into our daily lives and trying to figure out an appropriate allowance for him. Check out these wonderful posts that I’ve pinned to help me figure out a chort chart for my family.
