This year, I’ve made myself and my needs a little more important than I have before. I’ve decided to practice self care. You may ask why and I’ll definitely tell you:
I never made enough time for myself.
As a mother, I wanted to give anything and everything I have to my children. That pretty much meant there wasn’t much time for me. For the most part, that was ok. I’d push through and try to make sure I’d take a break somewhere. Last fall, I was completely overextended.

Definition of Self-Care: care for oneself
I started making sure I get some time to myself. I don’t get a lot of time because I’m a work at home mom. However, there were plenty of things I could do for myself so that I wouldn’t be so stressed out.
- Say NO: In order to take time for yourself, you have to not be busy. You can’t come to everyone’s rescue. Drop some things off your list and relax.
- Take the drive: If there is something we need, I like to take the drive and get it. I’m rarely in the car by myself so the time it takes to go to the store and back can be exactly what I need to reset and recharge.
- Plan a girls night: Personally, I don’t really go get my hair done or get my nails done often. But planning a spa night works great. Not only do you get your own self-care but you can also make sure your friends do as well.
- Do something you love: Even if you can’t plan a girls night, take a bath, paint your nails, do something for you. You don’t even need money, just a book and your bed will work. Care for yourself so you can care for your family.
I’ve been working on taking better care of myself and you should too. Make sure you take care of yourself first. Make yourself a priority in your own life.
