The world of Cars according to Hayden

January 15, 2014 by Ashley T

Both my boys love cars.

Seriously.

Ever since Hayden was old enough to know about toy cars, he wanted one. Every store we walked into, he asked for his own car. Most of the time it wasn’t a big deal, I mean Matchbox and Hot Wheels are pretty cheap, about $1 a car. So we saw no problem buying one for him every once in a while. Then the movie “Cars” was released. He had 2 copies of the movie because that’s how often he watched the movie. I loved watching his enthusiasm with these cars, he played with them all the time.

Soon though, our playroom was overtaken by cars. Not just the little toy cars, but everything seemed to be car themed. It didn’t bother me too much, as long as my little Hayden buddy had the toys he loved to play with. And as long as I didn’t step on any.

Then came Noah. Once he was old enough to know better, he joined his brother in the love of cars. Noah isn’t as hard core as Hayden.. mainly because he’s still little. But I love to watch them both play with their mountains of cars together and not fight like all brothers do. At least for a short time.

Now we’ve graduated slightly. Hayden will be 7 next month and he started paying attention to the cars on the road a while ago. I sometimes have to stop them from talking about cars because it’s an everyday sometimes all day thing. He has a passion for something, I love that but a mom can only hear about cars for so long.

Just think: I have less than 10 years til the point that he’ll be old enough to drive. 10 years until he thinks that he can take me to a dealership and pick out a brand new (but more realistically a used) car. Thinking about that is making me tear up just a little.

So back to seeing my little boy at the age of 6.

Talking about cars.

ALL THE TIME.

I’m ok with that, as long as he doesn’t grow up too fast.

Both of my grandsons love cars, too. They are constantly lining them up in the longest lines from room to room and they love to roll them back and forth to each other.
