I Guess 40 Weeks Weren’t Enough

October 12, 2015 by Ashley T

I thought that I would deliver baby #3 about the same time as my boys: sometime during the 38th week. I was so ready, especially since it also happened to be the same week as my birthday. I wasn’t too keen on sharing a birthday but I didn’t mind sharing the week. However, my 38th week came and went. I was still prepared to NOT get to my due date. Or at least I didn’t want to. This little girl had a different plan.

I went to my 39th week doctor’s appt and even my doctor was confused as to why I hadn’t gone into labor yet. I wasn’t getting anything but adding weight. I was super uncomfortable and my body was super sore by the end of the day, everyday. But she didn’t feel ready. My doctor stripped my membranes that day and made sure I was scheduled to be induced (per my request) and I left the office. I still saw 40 weeks: my due date.

40 weeks

I was scheduled to be induced on Wednesday October 7th and the night before we had everything packed to get going. However the baby had a different plan. I woke up at 1:30am to use the bathroom. As soon as I stood up, I realized my water had broken… and ran to the bathroom. I woke my husband up (who agreed with me that baby girl could have let us sleep for 2 more hours!) and we headed to the hospital. Every nurse we met laughed because I was scheduled to be there 2 hours later. Baby girl had other plans.
Baby Olivia
I delivered Olivia Alison at 10:07am (on 10/7… how awesome is that?!) and she is beautiful! I’m so excited that she’s here and just have been enjoying her and her laid back attitude so far. My husband is using his paterity leave so we’re all home as a family right now. I am breastfeeding and slowly transitioning to cloth diapering so hang in there. I’ll update when I get the chance. Meanwhile, I’m just enjoying this beauty.

I know how you feel. I went to 40w4d with my youngest. I was very uncomfortable. My membranes were stripped at my 38 week checkup and had a big contraction right after but the baby stayed. I had to be induced and he was born on Valentine's Day of 2011 at 3:16pm and weighed 9lbs 2oz. I always think of the verse John 3:16 when I think of his birth time.
