Make sure you drink your water

May 24, 2010 by Ashley T

This past Saturday marked 15 weeks into the pregnancy. How wonderful! I’m still at the stage where I don’t feel pregnant, other than the fact that I’m hungry all the time. So, I’ve been going on like normal, other than eating more often.
Well, yesterday afternoon changed all that. We took a family trip to the zoo. Second one since we got our family passes that we saved up for. It was the first nice day in a long time so of course we were going. The high was going to be 83 so the plan was to go early before it got too hot. So started on the other side of the zoo since last time we checked out the new polar bear exhibit. We stopped for drinks and looked at some animals but I started to get dizzy. I’ve had it before, because the contacts I have aren’t very breathable. So i made the decision to take my contacts out. I didn’t have a back-up pair or my glasses so I just couldn’t see that well. No problem, we’d be back. Hayden wanted to play in the play area so we took a break. I had started getting dizzy again. I also had to use the bathroom. After I went, it felt like it had went away. I still didn’t feel “great” though. So i told my husband and we decided to leave, after Hayden rode the carousel.
While they were riding, I was sitting in one of the rocking chairs and felt like I needed some shade. So i pushed the stroller over to the nearest shaded bench and never made it. I remember walking and then ending up on the ground. I only blacked out for probably 10 seconds but I don’t remember a thing. There was a nurse there who helped… I was given 2 bottles of water to help cool me down and they called EMS. After they asked me questions, I realized that I hadn’t drank any water all day… I had orange juice with my breakfast and we filled our Zoo cup with fruit juice (half filled with ice so it could be watered down) but no water. I’ve got to get on the ball about drinking more water. I have been drinking more water, but not for the reasons above… its because after lunch time, everything gives my mouth a nasty after taste and the only thing that doesn’t is water…. or candy. Another weird pregnancy thing.

This is all I know. I MUST start drinking more water and keeping hydrated.

Scary! Glad to hear you are okay. I try to drink 3 liters of water er day. I put crystal light in it to make it easier to drink since I can't stand water.
